HOW DOES MOTORCYCLE TRACTION CONTROL WORK?

HOW IT WORKS

GRIPONE collect a lot of information (from various sensors) including speed, gravitational forces and lean angle. All these informations are processed in a matter of milliseconds. The traction control utilizes these data to control the power delivered to the rear wheel. GRIPONE limit the power delivered by simply stopping the fuel supply to the engine or cutting firing with a precise cut pattern, designed to make the power reduction smooth.

WHY OUR SYSTEM IS THE BEST

  • GRIPONE is the only “after market” traction control system with inertial platform. With the inertial platform it is possible to measure the load of tyres and the leaning angle of motorcycle. By these information, GRIPONE can understand the level of grip between the rubber and the asphalt. The final result is a perfect power reduction, optimized for every condition.
  • The sensitive of traction control in traditional systems is fixed. GRIPONE uses a innovative algorythm that adjusts in real time the sensitive of traction control to adapt the power reduction to the lean angle of the bike.

DIFFERENCES TO OTHERS

 Some other traction control system are born as “fuel tuning” system and in addition they include a “traction control” functionality. Pay attenttion to these systems because without speed sensors or without inertial platform there is not any chance to define properly when and how much reduce the power if the rear tyre loose grip.

Some other traction control system (that uses speed sensors) manage the power reduction applying a static sensitive: the user fix a certain value of sliding and over this value the traction control reduce the power. Simple but not efficent

GRIPONE

 GRIPONE uses speed sensors on both tyres so the measure of slide is extremely precise. The ECU knows exatly when the situation become critical and can operate an adjustment on the power delivery.

To be even more accurate by the inertial platform (IMU) the power reduction is compensated by the lean angle of the bike.

The traction control is not the only function of GRIPONE. It is a anti wheelie system and (for some model of motorcycle) it is a quick shifter system.

GRIPONE is able to measure the tyre loads so it can estimate the level of grip between tyre and asphalt. It means the sensitive of traction control is always optimized by the condition: never too much or never not enough.

REACTIVE OR PREDICTIVE…

The traction control system prevents the motorcycle from sideways sliding when leaning. It achieves this by controlling the power delivered to the rear wheel. This drastically reduces the chances of drifting. There are two categories of traction control in motorcycles:  reactive traction controls and  predictive traction controls. The name of the categories itself suggests its working. In the reactive  traction control, various components of the system wait until the spinning of the rear wheel occurs and then make corrections (like our GRIPONE S3 and GRIPONE S4).
In the predictive traction control (like GRIPONE LEONE), the system makes a correction while or even before the rear wheel spins.
